In September, I did a deep dive into Canada’s persistent below potential growth, its root causes and the best way to change its path in a structural manner. The note can be found here: The North's Potential.
Since then, we have seen some modest improvements in the economy, but it has been uneven.
We are also seeing grand statements from PM Carney about a “New World Order” and Canada’s role to play in it. This is best illustrated by Carney’s speech at Davos, which I highly recommend watching in full: Canadian PM Mark Carney speaks at World Economic Forum.
This note will be a summary of recent developments as we assess whether Canada is turning the corner from its stagnation.
